Ok, it may not be the ideal place for many, but if you travel to Amsterdam and want to try a typical dutch snack, you can't stop eating a haring broodje. What is it? It's a snack with marinated herring, onion and pickles (€ 3). If you do not dare with raw herring you can always opt for some other option, such as salmon or fried fish. Of course, the cold beer is almost mandatory 😉 Tip: the owners are very nice and the place is close to Dam Square.

You want to try traditional dutch food without finishing in the typical beach bar catches tourists or spend half of the travel budget? Blauwe Hollander is the perfect alternative. If you go at noon you can have some Dutch tapas to share (fried meatballs, mustard sausages, cheese fingers) and a crepe (they are rich and cost about € 5-6). But our advice is to go to dinner and try the stamppot, one of the most typical dishes of Amsterdam (a plate of mashed potatoes and vegetables that is accompanied with meatball / sausages ...) and / or pea soup with bacon.

There are 3 serving sizes: small (€ 2.30), medium (€ 2.90) and large (€ 4.50). The sauce is paid separately (€ 0.70 or € 1 double serving / two types).

We discovered this site preparing the trip to Amsterdam and fell in love with its terrace that overlooks a city channel. When we took a look at the menu, we just convinced ourselves and there we went. Result: simple but rich food, cold beers (€ 3-6) and much, much atmosphere. It is rather a place to go out with friends and have a drink, but if you settle for a dish to share (nachos, rolls, meatballs, wings ...) or with a hamburger, it is luxurious. Tip: try to avoid rush hour, it is a very fashionable place and it is usually very crowded.

Due to its colonial past, Holland has great affinity for the Indonesian cuisine and it will not be difficult to find in many restaurants dishes such as nasi goereng (fried rice) or satay (skewers with soy sauce and peanut). Of course, nothing better than to come and try them to an authentic Indonesian. The main courses cost about € 8.50-10, but you can also choose mixed dishes (there is a counter with a food tray) and an infinite number of small dishes that cost between € 1 and € 3. If you go two and want to try a tasting menu, you can choose to order the rijsttafel and they will put you a few dishes to try. It costs € 34.95 (price for 2 people).

Bonus track. Senses Restaurant (by Lars Bertelsen)

Already dulcis in fundo We recommend the Senses Restaurant, which belongs to The Albus Hotel, and where we were lucky to have dinner our last night. Go ahead that is not a cheap restaurant, peeeero if you have something to celebrate and your wallet allows it, believe us, you will not regret it! We tried the 7 course menu (€ 79). The best? Is a blind tasting: You don't know what you eat until they bring it to you at the table. The presentation is worthy of a restaurant with a Michelin star and the taste ... too. We loved living this experience!

In addition, if you are one of those who enjoy wine, there is a pairing option (the wines are of death!).

Code of ethics: we were guests of Senses, but our opinion is honest ... we loved it 🙂
